The Leslieville Farmer’s Market embraces the tenets of Food Security defined at the 1996 World Food Conference:
“Food security exists when all people, at all times, have physical, social and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life.”
The definition of Food Security is often expanded by describing the pillars that uphold it. Various agencies describe these in various ways, but they can be expressed as follows:

Adequacy: access to food that is nutritious and safe and produced in environmentally sustainable ways

Agency: the policies and processes that enable the achievement of food security
